Inspiration for You

sleep apnea Oct 06, 2022
Sleep apnea is a BREATHING disorder.

The nights are passing by and the mask changes and other adjustments aren’t really working.  You’re fed up.  Your mind is looking for ways to dump this whole CPAP ordeal.

Do any of these thoughts sound familiar?

  • I don’t think another mask change is really the answer.
  • I’m still as tired (or even more tired!) during the day.
  • I think I’ll just do the minimum.
  • I feel anxiety (even dread!) when I think about going to bed.
  • I wonder why I’m even doing this in the first place.
  • I’m confused and I don’t know where to turn next.
  • This just isn’t working.

Every night you’re uncomfortable increases your frustration with CPAP . . . and the risk that you will put your machine in your closet because you are just so DONE with the whole situation.

Finding inspiration can help, so I want to give you some here.  I want to emphasize that sleep apnea is not just a sleep disorder.

Sleep apnea is a BREATHING disorder.  That only occurs during sleep.  The sleep part is what makes it tricky- you’re not aware that it’s happening.  But it’s a breathing disorder, through and through.

Think about other breathing disorders, such as pneumonia, emphysema, asthma, and carbon monoxide exposure.  You would want those treated, right?  You would be motivated to get them taken care of.

Have you seen someone with asthma get out of breath?  Or COPD?  Breathing is fundamental.  It’s hard to see someone trying to get air.

You are literally out of breath (apnea) for hours when you sleep.

And so treating your sleep apnea, a breathing disorder, is important.  Breathing and sleep are both basic biological needs.

Now, breathe in a deep breath and hold it for a few seconds.  This is an inspiration.  So I have given you at least one inspiration today.  ;)  Now exhale.  This is an expiration.  Then start another inspiration.  Keep going, every minute of every day and night.  Don’t stop breathing.

Please make sure you are treating your breathing disorder (sleep apnea).
